Our Name

Mariposa means “butterfly” in Spanish, and from the beginning, the butterfly has represented transformation to us.

When our founder, Patti Furey Crane, adopted a gluten-free diet in 2002, changing the way she ate became the beginning of a new chapter in her life. That experience ultimately inspired her to start baking and, in 2004, to create Mariposa.

We chose the name Mariposa because a butterfly beautifully captures the idea of change and possibility. And as a California company, the Spanish word mariposa felt especially connected to the place we call home.

Over the years, we’ve learned that everyone comes to gluten-free differently. For some it’s a necessity; for others it’s a choice. Whatever brings you to our table, our goal is the same: to make wonderful baked goods that bring a little more joy, and a lot more deliciousness, to eating gluten-free.

Here’s to good food, new possibilities, and enjoying the journey.
